Want the stability of CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 and lots of themes?

Check out Avatar ROM for this week’s ROM of the week, which comes with full CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 while allowing you to use a multitude of MIUI themes (yes, they are free). I’ve always liked MIUI ROMs due to their high number of free themes but reluctant to use MIUI as may of their builds are ported and not as stable as other ROMs. But this ROM allows you to get the stability of CM10.1 with the latest Android 4.2.2 while allowing you to get MIUI themes, fully compatible.

So, if you are looking for such a ROM with lots of custom themes, check out the Avatar ROM for your Nexus S or Nexus S 4G and do let me know what you think.

To install, reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset (you can probably skip this but make a backup ROM, backup apps beforehand), install ROM, reboot.
If missing Play Store, reboot into recovery and install Gapps.

I like it …. but I don’t like that the jelly bean lock screen and clock widget don’t seem to be working.

    • dharmabum says:

correction .. the lock screen is not working with themes but does work with System …… I guess if you want MIUI themes you will have to give up the jelly bean lock screen

Max, I love you. Just when I think my Nexus S 4G has reached the end of its road, you bring new life to it. When I think that it’s rooted & customised to the max, you take it even further. Not only is this rom absolutely stunning & beautiful to gaze at, but it runs exceptionally smooth with no overclocking needed. My ONLY problem & glitch is when I open the browser(or any white & bright screen). When I open up the browser or a white, bright screen, I see a “Scrambled Rainbow” glitched screen as if it’s about to shut down(which it has happened on other CM roms) or has a virus. This has only been a problem with CM roms and no other ones. If it wasn’t for that bug or glitch, I would give this rom a perfect score of 100%. But I still give it a 90%. Hopefully that will be fixed very soon in the next CM rom or update.

  3. Arne says:

Great ROM. The only annoying thing is that it sometimes just turns on the backlights for the buttons on the bottom of the screen. That is weird. Other than that, it is very nice.

  4. dharmabum02 says:

I had to go back to Helly Bean …… for whatever reason avatar rom would not accept the code to change my mms carrier …. kind of sucks because i like the rom but i need picture messaging.

    • DeColby DéCo Phillips Capleton says:

That’s the same reason I had to switch back. This rom blocks out the “Hidden Menu”. Even if you restore the data from the backup, it still will not work :(

      • dharmum says:

that’s been fixed in the newest version of this rom 2/28

        • KUUN.K says:

then are you back on Avatar? I’ve flashed 2/28 Avatar but didn’t factory wipe n i got some troubles here and there so i restored to previous.

          • dharmabum says:

No I went back to HellyBean again ….. the themes are nice on Avatar but it is missing other things I enjoy more …. if you like the themes you could download bazooka launcer from the app store it replaces trebuchet though

        • CapletoN says:

How do you get the new version?

          • dharmabum says:

there’s an even newer version that fixed some of the issues I had with the earlier versions …. i’ve been running it for a few days now and like it … go to xda forums for your device it’s on there

  5. Bryan says:

Is the screen lock for MIUI work with this ROM?

  6. KUUN.K says:

very smooth. I flashed it today so I’ll know about battery by tomorrow. I’m an enthusiastic data and wifi user. (got “chromium” theme. very clean and simple, though there are some bug here and there). Oh, once you pull out an app or a widget from the bottom line where app drawer icon is, you cannot put it back to the empty spot next to app drawer. don’t know why… now I have dial, app drawer, and browser left… which is fine.. Good Rom overall. didn’t change kernel.

  7. DeColby DéCo Phillips Capleton says:

I forgot to mention that it completely removes(or blocks) the hidden menu. You can’t access the data menu, programming or any other code menu. I had to swtich back to hellybean because I can’t configure my MMS since it blocks out the provisioning menu :( …I hate I have to go back because I was starting to love this rom :(

  8. Vijay says:

Infact I found Aavatar to be a more stable ROM than the hellybean as my phone would restart on its own. I quite did not understand the reason but it used to restart frequently 3-4 times a day.
But i see one problem with the Avatar ROM as i install and use the themes my phone lags. it wont open the apps quickly when i am on a theme. But when on system it works fine.

    • KUUN.K says:

I went back and forth between Avatar and Hellybean but I flashed Slim 4.2.2 build 1 yesterday and I personally think it’s best. I also had several reboots a day when I had hellybean.. currently, I’m using Slim with Matrix 25.0 and it has been a day.. so.. not sure yet but I’m feeling good.

  10. Acidon says:

    Absolutely loved the build!

    BUT – (And Please Help)

I can’t install Google Play or ClockworkMod. Even forcing manual installs do not function.

The main problem is that Google Play still says that I have those apps installed already, even though I do not (with the new build).

I have gone back to my Backup right before trying the new build until I figure out how I can get around this issue. Any and all help is very much appreciated!

  11. Pascal DW says:

Avata is great rom, but I don’t if my Nexus become old or if a problem with the Avatar rom, but I have black screen and it takes a long time to load applications.
Thank you for your work on this site.

  12. Ben says:

    Hi,
How can I turn off the camera “shotsound” ?:)
    thanks

    • KUUN.K says:

um.. set your phone to vibrate mode or silent mode. i honestly don’t think this is a good place to ask these kind of question lol. just google them

  13. Mihir says:
