Best Nexus S 4G ROM/Kernel Combo – CM7 + Trinity Kernel [OC 1.544Ghz][5000+ Quadrant]

Nexus S 4G users have been asking me day after day what is the best Nexus S 4G ROM.  Well, I took the liberty of trying to find the best ROM/kernel combo over the weekend and I think I’ve found it, CyanogenMod 7 with Trinity kernel, which gives you stable 1.544Ghz overclocking and speeds over 5000+ on Quadrant.

As you can see in the video, this setup beats an overclocked 1.6Ghz Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch, pretty cool huh?

You will need to flash the following 3 files in ClockworkMod Recovery:

(Don’t know how to install ROM?  See How to Install ROM on Nexus S/Nexus S 4G.)

Download ROM here:

Download CyanogenMod 7 ROM

Download GoogleApps here:

Download Gapps

Download Kernel here:

Download Trinity Kernel

Also, to override Quadrant’s bug of limiting the GPU to 60fps, delete libGLES_android.so in /system/lib/egl directory like this:

Download adb.zip first.

Download adb.zip

Browse to the directory where you unzipped adb like this for Windows:
cd \adb

For Linux & Mac:
cd /adb

Then type for Windows:
adb shell

For Linux:
./adb-linux shell

For Mac:
./adb-mac shell

Then type:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
rm /system/lib/egl/libGLES_android.so

max do i mount the nexus as a disk drive for the adb to work?

    • Nexus S Hacks says:

      Use “Charge Only”!

      • JG says:

i have it in charge only but it keeps saying error device not found

        • Nexus S Hacks says:

make sure to install the drivers!

          • JG says:

ok max sorry to keep bothering u.. this will be the last time i promise.. lol i go to install the drivers and it said unsuccessful and no drivers were available for nexus s when i hit start and click devices and printers and trouble shoot and it says no drivers for device is installed but i hit apply fix and i get a red x and it says unsuccessful no drivers available..

  3. JG says:

everytime i type adb shell it says device not found.. what did i miss?

  4. Jimmy says:

How long doe it take to boot up after flashing this ROM

    • Jimmy says:

Okay I re-flashed it. Aparently it went into a bootloop when I flashed the trinity kernel. Can you explain what to do with that trinity kernel or should I keep the cynogen kernel. Please advise.

  5. Jared says:

Love it, very snappy. but the gtalk video chat doesn’t work anymore. is there a fix for this?

  6. JG says:

Will this mod work on a SG2 epic touch? And if not is it possible to make it work some how? I ask because it never goes past 60fps when i do quadrant

  7. JG says:

HEy max, just wondering how can i make 1544 stable? it freezes and reboots.. should i up the voltage?

  8. Alex says:

This may seem a little pointless as the point of this combo is to o.c. to 1.544 but why isn’t there a way to clock at a speed between 1.0 and 1.5??

  9. AC says:

Not to be a noob here but how exactly do you fix the quadrant bug? I can’t figure out what to do with the adb file. Many thanks to anyone who could shed some light on this.

    Cheers!

  10. Cortes says:

Works beautifully. My cousin has the Galaxy S II. Did a side by side comparison and my Nexus S 4G was noticeably faster. Thanx!!!

  11. Nathan says:

This is probably a really dumb question but after I flashed cm7 and then rebooted my ns4g it would just constantly be in the boot screen.. And before that I flashed cm7 and trinity (trinity being the last one) and it was stuck on the trinity load screen. I let both sit for a few minutes before removing the battery and just doing boot recovery / restore.

can anyone maybe give me an idea of why it wasn’t working??

  12. adam says:

Nathan do a full back up of your phone in clockwork run the rom manager do a full data whipe and cache whipe then install the rom then the kernel and the google apps if needed. Dont worry you wont delete your back up so just incase it screws up you can always go back:) I did the same thing and after i did this it worked just fine!

  13. Shivom says:

Heyo max! What if I install this rom and kernel on my regular nexus s?

  14. joehart says:

does this work with cynogenmod9+trinity kernel….on cm9 there are built in performance setting and governor. i have setcpu enabled can these conflict and witch is better to run. looking to improve performance whats your take on 16 bit transparency, surface dithering and force gpu rendering. new to root like 3 days new but cant put my phone down…one more questions please about adb.zip i followed the steps and how would i tell if it worked tried again and cmd said file not found but still not even close to 5000

  15. joehart says:

hello again i noticed people are asking max questions im new so please excuse me but who is max and can he educate me on my nexus s4g. i would like to play better games on my phone and make it as fast as possible while saving enough battery to make it back to my charger in 10 hrs. just rooted my phone cant believe i just found out about this kind of tech stuff…
